Johnson Engineering’s Environmental Scientist, Tim Denison, will be presenting How Dirty Is Our Roadway Runoff? at the upcoming Florida Stormwater Association’s 2010 Winter Conference scheduled for December 1-3, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency in Tampa, Florida.
Tim will be discussing the results of water quality stormwater runoff studies that Johnson Engineering performed for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). These studies indicate that concentrations of nutrients in runoff from Southwest Florida roadways are lower than the estimated values currently used to determine water quality treatment.
Having local roadway runoff data for concentrations of nutrients and other pollutants is important in determining the size of detention ponds needed to treat the runoff. These ponds and other treatment types are important to the protection of our water quality. Sizing these ponds correctly to efficiently treat stormwater runoff, while conserving land and money, is crucial both environmentally and economically.
