New Sebring Office Helps Support Projects in Central and Eastern Florida

We are excited to announce the opening of a branch office in Sebring, Florida. This new office at 9200 US Hwy 27 South, Suite A, Sebring, FL 33870, will allow us to better serve our clients in the central and eastern portions of the state.

We have worked on a variety of projects within Highlands and neighboring counties and feel this is the perfect time to expand our presence in this area. This new location will positively impact our clients by helping reduce travel time and expenses commuting from our other offices..

Johnson Engineering Receives Community Service Award

Johnson Engineering received first place recognition from the City of Fort Myers for the successful efforts cleaning Carrell Canal through the City’s Adopt-A-Canal program. Throughout the last two years employee volunteers participated in quarterly cleanings and removed 29 cubic yards of trash and debris from the canal, the most removed by the seven other firms participating in the program.

This initiative began as a way to decrease the amount of litter from 10 canals throughout the City’s stormwater system, ultimately helping to improve the water quality of the Caloosahatchee River.

New Permit Extensions

House Bill 503 passed and has been signed by the governor, allowing for a two year extension of any building permit, and any permit issued by the Department of Environmental Protection or by a water management district which has an expiration date from January 1, 2012, through January 1, 2014.
Written notification to the agencies by December 31, 2012 is required, identifying the specific authorization for which the holder intends to use the extension and the anticipated timeframe for acting on the authorization.

Matt Howard named as Johnson Engineering’s Surveying Director

Johnson Engineering has named Matt Howard, P.S.M. as Director of our Survey & Mapping market group.

Matt Howard, P.S.M. has more than three decades of experience in the field of surveying. He joined Johnson Engineering in 2000 and became a partner of the company in 2005. Matt has been serving as the company’s survey manager for the LaBelle office, but will now perform his daily operations from the Fort Myers office.

Matt has performed numerous surveys for the public and private sector throughout Hendry and Glades Counties for many years and has intimate knowledge of the Southwest Florida area. His work has included boundary surveys, topographic surveys, route/right-of-way surveys, construction layout and control surveys.

Matt will replace Mark Wentzel, P.S.M. who served as director of the surveying and mapping group for 11 years. Mark will continue to serve on the company’s Board of Directors and provide surveying and mapping services for the company.

Jared Brown, P.E., LEED APWe are pleased to welcome Jared Brown, P.E., LEED AP, as the new project manager in our Naples office. Jared is a licensed Florida civil engineer, Florida native and a resident of Naples for over a decade. He has more than 12 years of experience designing and managing land development projects in Southwest Florida from concept through construction. Jared has a wide range of project experience having managed projects for municipalities, private developers, non-profit and rural/agricultural clients. Jared will be responsible for handling the daily operations of our Naples office and servicing client’s needs throughout Collier County.

Johnson Engineering Welcomes Phil Chang in Pasco County

Phil ChangWe are pleased to welcome Phil Chang, P.E. as a new project manager for the Pasco County office. Phil is a licensed Florida civil engineer, resident of Pasco County, and brings more than 17 years of experience. His project management experience includes multi-million dollar CIP roadway and pedestrian facilities projects as well as residential and commercial development, bringing them from inception to completion of construction. He is also familiar with the inner-workings of FDOT after reviewing consultant plans and studies for compliance with FDOT, County and other regulatory agency criteria as well as for quality assurance and quality control. Prior to joining Johnson Engineering, Phil worked for the Pasco County – Project Management Division.

Kevin Winter Elected New Chairman of the Board of Directors for Johnson Engineering

Kevin Winter, P.E.We are pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Winter, P.E. as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Kevin Winter, P.E., a 24 year employee, and head of the company’s Development Group has been elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors effective immediately. Kevin is tasked to work with the Board to develop a new strategic plan that will redefine goals and methods to achieve these aspirations for the company.

Kevin joined Johnson Engineering in September 1986 as a civil engineer with responsibilities for all phases of utility, drainage and road design. He became a partner in the firm in 1992 and is presently the firm’s director of development services. Kevin has served as the firm’s project manager on the Southwest Florida International Airport Expansion. This project involved more than five miles of roadway design along with utilities and permitting of more than 1,500 acres of development area. Kevin was also the project manager on the Airport’s Paul J. Doherty Parkway project. He also served as project manager on a 45 acre, +/- 300,000 sq. ft. commercial center called Page Field Commons located on the grounds of the Page Field Airport. Kevin serves as the project manager on the +/- 1,600,000 sq. ft. retail lifestyle center, Gulf Coast Town Center located at Alico Road and I-75.

Patricia Bell joins our Water Resources Group

Patricia Bell, P.E.We are happy to welcome back Patricia Bell, P.E., who first joined Johnson Engineering in April 2000. She rejoined Johnson Engineering in May 2011 after a two year absence to start a family. Having worked in the firm’s Naples and Fort Myers offices, Patricia is familiar with design and permitting procedures in both Collier and Lee County. She is a water resource engineer and her experience includes work on transportation and development projects. Dana Hume appointed to FGCU Advisory Board

Dana Hume, P.E.Dana Hume, P.E., development group project engineer, has been appointed to serve on the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Department of Environmental and Civil Engineering Advisory Board.

Dana has more than two decades of civil engineering experience and is responsible for managing all civil engineering work for Johnson Engineering associated with the construction of several buildings and roadway improvements at the university. His responsibilities include managing and coordinating other design professionals with the firm on the design of the stormwater management system, potable water and sanitary sewer extension, entitlement from permitting agencies, coordination of construction staking, construction observation, quality control and contract administration.

In addition to managing the development department in Lee County since 2005, his responsibilities include being the project manager and engineer for all phases of development for educational, institutional, residential and commercial projects, specifically including site planning, infrastructure design, government agency permitting, quality control, construction administration and contributing to LEEDs credits while continually coordinating with his clients, consultants, and team members to meet the client’s vision, goals, and schedule.
