More than 50 Johnson Engineering employees, family and friends, volunteered Saturday morning, October 20, 2012, for our company’s 10th consecutive year cleaning and fixing up of Lovers Key/Carl E. Johnson State Park.

This annual Coastal Clean Up began a decade ago in honor of our company’s founder, Carl E. Johnson, whose efforts in the late 1960’s were instrumental in helping to acquire the land from local donors, surveying and establishing the extremely popular 1100-acre beach and wildlife area, which still bears his name today. Our employees are proud of their roots and intrigued by the historical connection, so as part of our ongoing community relations program, we come together each year to do our part in keeping the park looking its best.

Our volunteers divided into seven groups, each led by Friends of Lovers Key (F.O.L.K.S.) volunteers, and dedicated the morning to building picnic tables, constructing access pathways, litter removal, planting, and mulching. In one morning, our team knocked out projects that typically take park staff months to complete.

In an effort to support local businesses, the morning’s efforts was followed by a catered lunch on the beach provided by the local restaurant Bonita Breeze and employee raffle gifts provided by event sponsors: Carousel Beach Inn, Fresh Catch Bistro, Good Time Charters, and the Indian Princess.
